The Apocalypse is Now

Offensive coordinator Larry Fedora is leaving to take the head coaching job at Southern Mississippi. In a related development, the Cowboys have promised not to publish mug shots anymore for the assistant coaching staff.

Coach Gundy loses a friend from the staff, as Gundy and Fedora had worked together on the Baylor staff in 1996 under the great Chuck Reedy.

Gundy will tap into his vast coaching network, built from stops at Baylor and at Maryland under coaching legend Ron Vanderlinden, as well as his tenure at Boone State, to replace Fedora.

Watch Party Cancelled

T Boones Pickens cancelled his watch party today. Apparently many people RSVP'd that he tracked back to Bartlesville, OK. Fearing retribution for his corporate raid 20 years ago, and that a bunch of Okies might stain his carpet, Pickens has cancelled the event.

In an olive branch extended to OSU fans throughout Payne County, Pickens announced today he was acquiring Time Warner. Terms were not announced.

Insight Bowl Game Watch Party

Pistols Firing got the text message to the right earlier this week. TBP has a big place, so y'all come.

We are Bowl Bound!

The Boone State Cowboys are set to go to the Insight Bowl in Tempe, AZ, which will be played on New Years Eve. The Insight Bowl will be televised on the NFL network. Here's where the challenge is...because of disputes on where to carry the network with cable companies, only 1/3 of American households have access to the NFL Network. Factor in the "broad" fan base the Cowboys have, and we don't even know if anyone will get to watch the game. Pistols Firing will run an exclusive three part series on this quandary. Here is our first part...
The Landthieves Marketing Association of Oklahoma (LMAO) set out in a quest to find an Boone State Cowboy fan that had the NFL network via cable provider or dish. Fortunately, we were able to find such a fan, his assumed name is Dexter Parker, a marijuana farmer just outside of Perkins, Oklahoma. Parker is a quiet man, who likes to grow weed and watch football. "The casino nearby has brought so much petty crime into the area that the cops don't even pay attention to my marijuana farm anymore. It's a pretty sweet deal," says Parker. "I use some of the extra cash to pay for my Dish Network subscription so I can get all the NFL games and follow all the Cowboy greats in the NFL, like R.W. McQuarters. The fact that the Insight Bowl game is on the NFL network won't bother me at all."
We weren't able to find anyone else. Tune in tomorrow when we hope to get Boone Pickens involved.

Coach Gundys Contract Extended

By Brent Parker

Today Boone State extended the contract of Coach Mike Gundy. Here's the official link. Highlights of the article...
  • "We were competitive in every game but the last one. That shows improvement to me."
  • "...third coach in OSU history to lead the Cowboys to two bowls in his first three seasons on the job."
  • "Improved from sixth, to fifth, to third in the Big 12 South standings."

Other things that I believe are important to note...

  • There's a three way tie for third in the Big 12 South. So it's also a tie for fifth.
  • Better pass defense than SMU, UTEP and Rice.
  • First Oklahoma State coach to have a .500 record in the Big 12 and Sun Belt conferences in the same season.
